Tostadas is the best restaurant that I have been to in 2016 that serves local craft beer and wine. What an incredible experience we had. Gerry, the owner, was gracious and welcoming. It is obvious that Tostadas is dear to his heart, and he puts love and excitement into his creations.
We had so many yummy dishes including filet mignon and lobster, but my favorite was the Sandia Tostada. If there is such a thing as an “exciting meal” this is it. At first sight I was unsure if I would like this eclectic pile of food, nevertheless I gathered up my courage and dove in without knowing the ingredients. I was surprised by how well the textures and flavors went together. In an effort to preserve my courage, I waited until I had finished the entire thing before determining what I had just eaten, in case there was something too weird mixed in. Believe it or not, these are the ingredients of the Sandia Tostada: Ahi tuna, red onion, jicama, apples, cucumber, mango, peanuts, soy, lemon juice, orange, chipotle mayonnaise all on top of a crisp juicy slice of watermelon on top of a tostada shell.
The craft beers served with the entrees were ChuckAlek‘s Flycaster, a helles lager – Doughy, bready Pilsner malt complemented by the aroma and flavor of German Spalt Select and Perle whirlpool hops accent the crisp finish of this traditional lager style beer – and Mike Hess‘ award winning kolsch, Claritas – A crisp and authentic German-style beer, our Claritas features light fruit-like aromatics, along with those from the malt and hops. Malt sweetness is balanced by enough hop bitterness to end with a dry, clean finish.
ChuckAlek’s new Biergarten is just next door and Mike Hess is down the street a few blocks.
The red wine served with the last dish was from Villa Montefiori, a local wine from Valle de Guadelupe, a Nebbiolo de Guadalupe named Paoloni. The owner of that winery was there having dinner with us, and very proud to share his Nebbiolo with us; as I was grateful for this experience.
